The department of Mechanical Engineering (NBA Accredited) made its beginning with the establishment of the college in 1960. It offers a 4 years (8 semesters) B.E. course and has an intake of 120 students. Masters Degree programme in Industrial Automation and Robotics (IA&R) was started during the year 2004. The National Board of Accreditation has accredited the department for three years in the year 2004. The department has an excellent faculty with many active researchers. The department has developed good contacts with industries like BEML, NAL, HAL, BHEL, MICO and many others and many students take up their project works in these industries. All the laboratories in the department are approved for carrying out research leading to and Ph.D/M.Sc, (Engg) by research degree by VTU, Belgaum. So far 05 scholars have completed their Ph.D degree and currently, there are 20 Ph.D. and M.Sc. (Engg.) Scholars pursuing their research work in the department. The department organizes many programmes for the faculty and students periodically.

Lab Facilities

The department has well established laboratories like:

CAD/CAM and Robotics lab: The department has its own computer centre with facilities for learning CAD/CAM and Robotics Applications.

Energy Laboratory: This laboratory is used to carry out the testing of fuels and oils. Design & Heat Transfer Laboratory: Design, Vibration experiments along with Heat transfer experiments will be conducted here.

I.C. Engines Laboratory: This laboratory has the working models of engines and is used to test the engines for its power, performance, efficiency etc.

Machine Shop: Students are imparted training in the use of lathes, milling machines, Shaping Machines, drilling machines etc.

Refrigeration & A/C Units: The students are taught about the working of refrigerators and Air Conditioners.

Foundry & Forging Shop: Forging practice and Facilities for mould preparation and casting techniques are available in this laboratory.

Basic workshop: The First year students are taught Fitters, Soldering and welding in this workshop.
