Quality Initiative : 5.3.2

The Students Council is an elected representation of the student community. The purpose of the Student Council is to serve as a legislative body, framing policies and decisions for the benefit of the student community. The Student Council shall continuously strive to identify student- related issues and help resolve them, thus building a healthy environment in the institute. The Objectives are development of skill and personality of the students’ social awareness, interaction and knowledge sharing, To nurture the aptitude of the student community for holistic development. To develop student for social responsibility. The Role of Student Council has to Serve as the main forum of expression and in continuous touch with administration and act as a feedback system. The Functions of the Student Council are encouraged to take decisions through department. Views of all members of Student Council – faculty and student alike – are to be respected and equal importance is to be given to all views. 

a) The Student Council shall consider all different student activities in the department and Institute brought before it, either by one of its members, students or faculty members.

b) Structure of the Student Council may be changed if the Dean-Students deems it necessary, upon discussion with members. However, such decisions shall need the support of the majority of the members of the Student Council present.

Meetings of the Student Council shall meet at least twice during a semester. The Convener shall call the meetings of the Student Council. The quorum for all Student Council meetings shall be 50% of its total possible strength. It is expected that all members of the Student Council be present in meetings dealing with major policy changes/constitutional amendments. The Student Council is encouraged to take decisions by consensus.
