Department of Mechanical Engineering organised a technical talk on ‘Career Opportunities in Oil and Gas Industry’ on 8th March 2025. Puranam Prakash, General Manager (Installation), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) was the resource person.
He said that, one cannot become a successful engineer just because of getting good marks. It is the responsibility of engineers to find solutions to problems. There are plenty of job opportunities in the mechanical engineering sector. To get a job in oil and gas industries, one must have the knowledge and skills related to this sector. He opined that, most companies in the oil and gas sector are emphasizing on creating brand in the market.

BETA CAE System India Pvt. Ltd. has offered internship to final year Mechanical Engineering students of our institute. 40 students are learning ‘ANSA’ - an advanced multidisciplinary CAE pre-processing tool that provides all the necessary functionality for full-model build up, from CAD data to ready-to-run solver input file, in a single integrated environment. 
Trainer from BETA CAE System, Aruna M N is the resource person for this 15-week internship program started on 17th of February 2025. Malnad College of Engineering has a MoU with BETA CAE System India Pvt. Ltd. 
 

The Department of Mechanical Engineering organized an orientation program for third semester students on 19th December 2025.

Dr. C. V. Venkatesh, former Principal of Malnad College of Engineering, inaugurated the program and addressed the students. He advised students to apply their engineering knowledge to solve real-life problems and to cultivate the habit of interacting with everyone. Since engineering is a professional course, he said that students should emerge as personalities equipped with professional skills by the time they complete their degree.

He urged students to develop the habit of reading engineering books that are recognized at the global level. Along with academics, he emphasized giving priority to learning necessary skills. He also advised students to develop teamwork skills, as working as part of a team will be essential once they enter professional life.

He explained that outcome-based education includes the concept of designing teaching–learning activities in a student-centric manner, with emphasis on equipping students with skills relevant to their studies.

He stated that students graduating in Mechanical Engineering can build careers in all fields. The contribution of the fundamental principles of physics to the field of engineering is significant. Therefore, he advised students to give greater emphasis to learning the basic laws of physics during the third and fourth semesters.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ezhil Vannan, Professor, said that there are ample employment opportunities in the field of Mechanical Engineering. Eighth semester students have opportunities to do internships in companies, during which they can earn while learning. He informed that more than 90 percent of the final-year students studying in the Mechanical Engineering Department of the college have been selected for internships in companies with stipends. In recent years, a large number of Mechanical Engineering students have been securing jobs through campus placements, he added.

College NSS Officer Vijay Kumar Tile spoke about the AICTE activity points. He explained that students will not be eligible to receive their degree certificates if they do not earn the prescribed number of activity points. The activities suggested by AICTE to earn these points help in developing leadership qualities, he said.

Students and faculty members of our institute along with Dean (Planning & Development) Dr. H.J. Amarendra, attended a two-day workshop on ‘Advanced Manufacturing Technology’, organized by Advanced Manufacturing Technology Development Centre (AMTDC) at IIT Madras, on the 23rd and 24th of December 2024.
They visited IITM Pravartak, exploring advancements in Sensors, Actuators, and 5G Technology. They toured the 5G Comnet Lab, interacted with startups, and learned about entrepreneurial programs like EIR, SSS, and PRAYAS.
