Department of Mechanical Engineering organised a technical talk on ‘Career Opportunities in Oil and Gas Industry’ on 8th March 2025. Puranam Prakash, General Manager (Installation), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) was the resource person.
He said that, one cannot become a successful engineer just because of getting good marks. It is the responsibility of engineers to find solutions to problems. There are plenty of job opportunities in the mechanical engineering sector. To get a job in oil and gas industries, one must have the knowledge and skills related to this sector. He opined that, most companies in the oil and gas sector are emphasizing on creating brand in the market.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering, in association with the Training & Placement Cell, successfully organized an in-plant training program at TVS Motor Pvt. Ltd., Hosur from April 15 to 17, 2026.

Our pre-final year Mechanical Engineering students — Manju, Kushal L, Varshith H P, Sharath K, Swaroop S, Chethan R S, Naveen Kumar K C, and Varanada A Y — actively participated in this enriching experience.

The program offered valuable industry exposure, enabling students to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. With hands-on learning and strong support from the TVS team, participants gained meaningful insights into real-world engineering practices.

Industrial Visit to TVS Motor Company, Hosur

Students of Malnad College of Engineering had the opportunity to visit the manufacturing facility of TVS Motor Company, Hosur (Tamil Nadu) on 11 March 2026.

During the visit, students were introduced to the company’s background, organizational structure, and key products. The technical team at TVS explained the complete three-wheeler manufacturing process, including component production, assembly line operations, quality control, and testing procedures.

Students also observed how automation and modern production systems are integrated into manufacturing to enhance efficiency and maintain high-quality standards. Engineers at the facility shared insights into safety practices, environmental measures, and quality assurance systems, giving students a deeper understanding of how theoretical engineering concepts are applied in real industrial environments.

This visit provided valuable exposure to large-scale manufacturing processes, industrial management practices, and teamwork in production environments, making it an enriching and informative experience for the students.

The visit was coordinated and guided by Dr. Jeevan T. P., Mr. M. S. Prapulla Kumar, Dr. Supriya M. J., and Dr. Ashrith H. S., who accompanied the students and facilitated meaningful interaction with industry experts.

Overall, the industrial visit to TVS Motor Company, Hosur was a highly valuable learning experience that enhanced students’ technical knowledge and understanding of real-world industrial operations.

Training and placement cell of our institute organised a talk on "Opportunities in Oil and Gas Industry" for Mechanical and Civil engineering students on September 9, 2025. 
Resource persons from VRITTI Solutions spoke about the knowledge and skills students need to acquire to pursue a career in Oil and Gas sector.
 

Internship program offered by BETA CAE System India Pvt. Ltd. 

BETA CAE System India Pvt. Ltd. has offered internship to final year Mechanical Engineering students of our institute. 40 students are learning ‘ANSA’ - an advanced multidisciplinary CAE pre-processing tool that provides all the necessary functionality for full-model build up, from CAD data to ready-to-run solver input file, in a single integrated environment.

Orientation Day | Department of Mechanical Engineering

The Department of Mechanical Engineering, Malnad College of Engineering (MCE), Hassan, organized an Orientation Day Programme & One-Day Symposium on 24 September 2026 at the Alumni Tower, welcoming the first and third semester Mechanical Engineering students.

The Orientation Day Programme featured Dr. C. V. Venkatesh, Former Principal, MCE, as the Chief Guest. Addressing the students, Dr. Venkatesh highlighted the evolution of engineering education, the importance of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and the versatility of Mechanical Engineering.

He emphasized the importance of developing strong fundamentals and gaining a clear understanding of core subjects such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, mechanics of materials and metallurgy. He encouraged students to build practical skills, think independently and understand the real-world applications of engineering concepts.

Dr. Venkatesh also cautioned students against becoming overly dependent on Artificial Intelligence tools. He stressed that while AI can assist in learning and problem-solving, students must develop their own thinking, reasoning and technical skills to become competent professionals.

The One-Day Symposium was conducted on the theme “Phronesis, Critical Thinking, Logical Reasoning & Entrepreneurial Skills in the Age of Intelligence Being Artificial.” The resource person, Mr. Sagar A H, International Educationist & Philosopher, encouraged students to develop curiosity and critical thinking.

He highlighted the importance of a growth mindset, encouraging students to embrace challenges, learn from feedback, treat failure as a learning opportunity and believe in continuous improvement. 

Addressing the gathering, Principal Dr. S. Pradeep highlighted the institution’s commitment to providing quality academic education along with exposure to experts from diverse fields. He encouraged students to make meaningful use of their four years at the institution and develop themselves both inside and outside the classroom.

Dr. Ezhil Vannan, Professor & Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering, urged students to actively participate in technical clubs and professional bodies.

The programme provided an inspiring beginning for the students as they embarked on their journey in Mechanical Engineering.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering organized an orientation program for third semester students on 19th December 2025.

Dr. C. V. Venkatesh, former Principal of Malnad College of Engineering, inaugurated the program and addressed the students. He advised students to apply their engineering knowledge to solve real-life problems and to cultivate the habit of interacting with everyone. Since engineering is a professional course, he said that students should emerge as personalities equipped with professional skills by the time they complete their degree.

He urged students to develop the habit of reading engineering books that are recognized at the global level. Along with academics, he emphasized giving priority to learning necessary skills. He also advised students to develop teamwork skills, as working as part of a team will be essential once they enter professional life.

He explained that outcome-based education includes the concept of designing teaching–learning activities in a student-centric manner, with emphasis on equipping students with skills relevant to their studies.

He stated that students graduating in Mechanical Engineering can build careers in all fields. The contribution of the fundamental principles of physics to the field of engineering is significant. Therefore, he advised students to give greater emphasis to learning the basic laws of physics during the third and fourth semesters.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ezhil Vannan, Professor, said that there are ample employment opportunities in the field of Mechanical Engineering. Eighth semester students have opportunities to do internships in companies, during which they can earn while learning. He informed that more than 90 percent of the final-year students studying in the Mechanical Engineering Department of the college have been selected for internships in companies with stipends. In recent years, a large number of Mechanical Engineering students have been securing jobs through campus placements, he added.

College NSS Officer Vijay Kumar Tile spoke about the AICTE activity points. He explained that students will not be eligible to receive their degree certificates if they do not earn the prescribed number of activity points. The activities suggested by AICTE to earn these points help in developing leadership qualities, he said.

They visited IITM Pravartak, exploring advancements in Sensors, Actuators, and 5G Technology. They toured the 5G Comnet Lab, interacted with startups, and learned about entrepreneurial programs like EIR, SSS, and PRAYAS.

Alumni of 1980 Batch Mechanical Engineering visited our campus on 27th September and relived old memories, interacted with Principal Dr. H J Amarendra, faculty, staff and students of Mechanical Engineering Department. 
‘Parahita’- an alumni initiative to support and mentor students was inaugurated by the alumni on this occasion. 
Alumni of 1980 Batch - H V Ramakrishna, Govinda Raju T V, Mahaveer Chand S, Suresh Babu T N, Gopal Krishna S G, Prakash K, Shama Sundar K, Shashi Kumar A, Suresh Raj Jain, Chandrashekar, Ramaswamy H J and Keshavan, motivated students by sharing their lived experiences. They also gave valuable suggestions to excel in personal and professional life.
