ASCE India Student Symposium 2026 – Achievement Report

The students Department of Civil Engineering Malnad College of Engineering proudly represented the institution at the *ASCE India Student Symposium 2026*, held at UPES, Dehradun and PEC, Chandigarh from 25th to 28th March. The event provided an excellent platform to showcase technical skills, innovation, and practical application of civil engineering concepts at a national level.

One of the key highlights of the symposium was the *BridgeWorks competition*, a signature structural engineering event that challenges participants to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world design and construction scenarios. Teams from over 25 colleges across the country participated, making it a highly competitive event.

The team designed and constructed a *high-efficiency ice-cream stick bridge*, focusing on structural analysis, load distribution, and material optimization. The design emphasized achieving maximum load-carrying capacity while maintaining a high strength-to-weight ratio under strict constraints.

During testing, the bridge successfully sustained a *maximum load of 62.8 kg without failure, demonstrating excellent structural integrity and precision in design. This outstanding performance led the team to secure **first place at the UPES Dehradun campus*, marking a significant achievement.
The management, including the Chairman Sri R T Dyave Gowda, Secretary Sri C R Jagadeesh, Treasurer Sri H D Parshwanath ,Principal Dr H J Amarendra, congratulated the students for bringing laurels to the institution.
The structure not only sustained the applied load but exceeded testing expectations, showcasing superior design efficiency
and structural performance
The team from Malnad College of Engineering comprised Lakshmi KM, Darshan MS, Harini AR, Abhijna K, Shreyas GR, and Nishanth HN, who actively participated in the ASCE India Student Symposium 2026. The team was guided by Prof. K. S. Manjunath and supported by ASCE coordinators Prof. Brunda BN and Prof. Rashmi BR, along with faculty member Prof. Amrutha DS. The Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, Dr. Sumana Jayaprakash, and Professor Dr. A. J. Krishniah provided valuable encouragement and academic support.

8. 2025-2026

We are delighted to share that Dr. Supriya M. J., Associate Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, served as a resource person at a skill development program organized by Smt. L. V. Government Polytechnic College, Hassan, on March 13, 2026, under the Prerana initiative.

She delivered an insightful session on “Engineering Beyond the Equation: A Roadmap to Skill Development”, inspiring students to look beyond academics and focus on building essential skills for the future.

The session emphasized the importance of skill development, career preparedness, and continuous learning to meet the evolving demands of modern industries. Students were encouraged to strengthen both technical expertise and professional competencies to unlock greater career opportunities.
